Coaching Works Better with a System

When we set goals, it feels great, only for the momentum to rapidly wear off.  Instead, ample research tells us we need a system in place if we want to succeed.

Imagine sitting in the driving seat of an electric car with a clear destination in mind. To get from A to Z, it takes many moving parts to get to your destination.

The mistake many of us make is thinking that an experienced driver with a fully charged battery is enough to get us to where we want to go. But all too often, we overlook what’s holding us back. If the brakes are on, we’re not going to get very far. If the terrain is inhospitable, the journey is tough.

We need to orchestrate a whole system with many moving parts to ensure everything is working and playing well together.

That’s why even with the right kind of motivation, we don’t get as far as we’d like. Motivation is essential—it’s key to unlocking your potential—but it isn’t enough to accelerate and reach your destination.

Our 360º accountability coaching is a powerful system that takes account of the bigger picture and holds you compassionately accountable to get you to where you want to be.

You could think of our coaching as your SatNav, but you’re in the driving seat.

We help you put in place a system that will accelerate, not overwhelm, what you want to achieve

How Does Coaching Benefit Students?

In need of a boost? Feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, burning out, underachieving, demotivated or unsupported? Coaching could help you. Many of us are familiar with coaches. All world-class athletes, from Emma Raducanu to Usain Bolt, wouldn’t be where they are today without coaching. And many leaders, entrepreneurs and change-makers also benefit from coaching. University students—our future leaders—can also benefit, but very few organisations cater for their unique needs. It’s time this changed.

Is Coaching Right for Me?

Only you can decide what’s right for you. And your decision will depend on your current needs, wants and resources. To help you decide whether coaching is a good match for your needs, please check the question pointers below, to figure out whether coaching could potentially help you.

  1. FEELING FRUSTRATED?
    • Not getting the results you want despite trying hard? Motivated but still not getting ahead? Are you stuck in a rut and don’t know which way to turn?
  2. OVERWHELMED?
    • Is everything getting on top of you? Are you worried you’ve got too much on your plate? Are you finding it hard to find the clarity you sorely need?
  3. UNDERACHIEVING?
    • Are you failing to get the results you feel you want? Do you feel, deep down, you have far more potential but don’t know how to unlock it?
  1. BURNING OUT?
    • Are you feeling drained of energy and tired all the time? Are you working long hours? Do you want to find a better way to work but still get the results you deserve?
  2. DEMOTIVATED?
    • Are you finding it hard to get off the sofa and get focused? Have you fallen out of love with your research or studies? Or have you never discovered your spark for learning?
  3. LACK SUPPORT?
    • Are you finding it hard to find a skilled accountability partner? Would you benefit from someone listening attentively to your needs?

If you answered YES to any of the above questions, you are likely to benefit from accountability coaching. We’d love to help you.

How much does coaching cost?

Coaching tends to be expensive, often beyond the reach of students. Knowing how much students could benefit from coaching, we have to think outside the box to make coaching inclusive and accessible for all.

Behind the scenes, we’re busy putting together a digital coaching platform that students will be able to access for the cost of, let’s say, three cafe lattes a month. But sadly, we’re about 9 to 12 months off from offering this option.

If you’re able and willing and want help here and now, our current package—flexible, results-driven and excellent value—could be just the ticket to unlock and accelerate your progress. We can’t wait to help you!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does the 15-minute free session involve?

Our chat isn’t a formal coaching session. Instead, it is an opportunity to:

  • Understand what your current needs are, in particular, your core reason(s) for wanting to benefit from coaching
  • Informally get to know each other, albeit briefly, to make sure you are comfortable and clear with the process
  • Answer any questions not covered here!
  • Clarify whether coaching is the right choice for you. As we say, there is absolutely no obligation on your part to follow through.

Can someone else pay for my coaching?

Absolutely! Anyone – a parent, guardian, friend, employer, or another benefactor – can gift you a coaching package (initial + top-up). This option is available at checkout. To give you access, your benefactor needs to enter your name and email address so that once payment is accepted, you receive your log-in details to access your coaching pages. Please note your benefactor will not have access to your coaching programme.

How much coaching do I need?

That depends on your unique needs and budget. However, it’s unlikely that one initial coaching cycle will bring about the long-lasting results you want. If your budget is tight, we recommend investing in the first cycle and using the top-up service thereafter – £22 per 30 minutes – to work out what level of coaching you need. The top-up service prevents you from being locked into a package that may be too little or much for you. But if you do want more time than provided in the initial coaching session, you can easily purchase extra top-up minutes from the start.

Do I need coaching if I'm also enrolled in the Self Leadership course?

Both our coaching and the self leadership course can be undertaken separately or in combination. For instance, if you enrol in our applied self leadership course, you may find at some point that you want extra support… but it is not a requirement. In fact, our course will teach you how to ‘self coach’.

Is coaching similar to mentoring, counselling or teaching?

There are similarities, but coaching is distinct in the following ways.

Mentoring is essential for dissertation success, but your research supervisor delivers this. As an expert in your subject discipline, they mentor your actual research.

While coaching can be therapeutic, it is neither therapy nor counselling. Coaching is forward-looking, therapy is typically backwards-looking. Both are useful but are distinctly different.

When being taught, we ask questions and receive answers. Coaching flips this. Instead, expect powerful questions, and with the right kind of support, you’ll feel empowered to find the right answer. It’s also important to point out that coaching is not a magic wand either! Quick fixes are extremely tempting but they don’t work in the long run. Instead, our coaching uses evidence-based ingredients that are designed to work together to deliver the results you want. However, while coaching isn’t a magic wand, we aim to make the coaching process as easy and effective as possible.
